Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has landed in Nairobi for a two-day official visit that is expected to strengthen the growing relationship between Malaysia and Kenya. He was warmly received at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, where he was accorded full state honours.

The visit comes at a time when both countries are looking to deepen cooperation in areas that directly affect development and livelihoods. One of the biggest conversations during the visit will revolve around affordable housing, a priority agenda for the Kenyan government. Malaysia, which has been recognized globally for its successful housing models, is exploring opportunities to invest and support Kenya’s efforts through technology, construction partnerships, and long-term cooperation.

Another key focus during Anwar’s stay is the digital economy. With Nairobi’s reputation as a tech hub, Malaysian companies traveling with the Prime Minister are keen to expand into the region. Both governments are expected to discuss ways of boosting collaboration in innovation, digital trade, cybersecurity, and ICT infrastructure.

Prime Minister Anwar is also scheduled to engage Kenyan and Malaysian leaders at the Malaysia–Africa Higher Education Forum and a Kenya–Malaysia Business Forum, where investors, educators, and policymakers will explore fresh opportunities in trade, education, and research. The visit will also see the signing of several agreements between the two nations to enhance cooperation in tourism, city development, investment promotion, and cultural exchange.

His presence in Nairobi signals Malaysia’s growing interest in building stronger ties with Africa, while also offering Kenya access to Malaysia’s expertise in housing, technology, education, and urban development.
