Kenyan Muslims Raise KES 5.4 Million for Udh'hiyah in Gaza

By Urban Shihemi, June 4, 2025. The Muslim community in Kenya has raised KES 5.4 million to support Udhiyah (Qurbani) for the people of Gaza, Palestine. The collected funds will go towards feeding starving people in Palestine during Eid-ul-Adha. Through their Gaza-Udhiya Program 2025, Voices of Palestine a consortium including the Jamia Mosque Committee, Supreme Council of Kenyan Muslims, National Muslim Leaders Forum, Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya, and others will deliver the money which will be used to buy and slaughter cattle in Egypt, with the meat frozen and transported to Gaza when humanitarian corridors open. Speaking today at Jamia Mosque Nairobi during a cheque presentation ceremony, Voices for Palestine Chairman Ahmed Shariff commended the Kenyan Muslim community for their generosity and urged continued support for Palestinians facing severe hardship. “This contribution is more than just meat; it’s a message that the people of Kenya, especially Muslims, stand in unity with Gaza,” said Shariff. “We must not only give but also raise our voices. We call on President William Ruto to publicly condemn the atrocities committed by Israel in Gaza and demand an end to the violence.” Shariff emphasized that in addition to financial aid, prayers and advocacy remain essential tools in supporting the people of Palestine. The funds will be channeled through international partners to ensure that thousands of affected families in Gaza receive meat during the Eid ul-Adha celebrations, a time when many would otherwise go without. The Muslims in the country have been in the forefront in supporting Gaza through donations including medical support, Ramadhan iftar program among others. So far over 54,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israel’s genocidal war since October 2023, the Health Ministry said on Wednesday. The Israeli army resumed its assaults on the Gaza Strip on March 18 and has since killed 4,335 people and injured nearly 13,300 others, shattering a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement that took hold in January. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
