Jamia Mosque Nairobi Secretary General, Abdulbary Hamid, has been recognized as a National Hero in the Philanthropy category by the National Heroes Council during this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations. The honor acknowledges his outstanding contribution to community service, humanitarian work, and his leadership role in advancing Jamia Mosque’s mission of service to society.
The award was formally presented today at the Jamia Mosque Nairobi Multi-Purpose Hall by the Chief Executive Officer of the National Heroes Council, Charles O. Wambia, in a ceremony attended by Jamia Mosque Committee members, staff head of departments and invited guests.
Speaking after receiving the award, Abdulbary Hamid expressed deep gratitude to the National Heroes Council for the recognition and dedicated the award to the Jamia Mosque Committee members and staff.
He noted that the achievement was a reflection of the collective effort and unwavering commitment of the entire Jamia fraternity to serve humanity through da’wah, education, health and social welfare programs.
“This award is not about me alone, it belongs to every member of the Jamia Mosque Committee and staff who work tirelessly to keep our institution at the forefront of service to the community. I dedicate it to them and to all who continue to support Jamia’s noble initiatives,” said Abdulbary.
In his remarks, the National Heroes Council Chief Executive Officer , Charles Wambia, congratulated Jamia Mosque Nairobi Secretary General for his exemplary leadership and dedication to community development, describing him as a role model in faith-based philanthropy.
“The National Heroes Council is proud to recognize you for your efforts that embody the spirit of Mashujaa Day service, sacrifice, and selflessness to the Muslim community,” said Wambia.
The Chairman of Jamia Mosque Committee also lauded the government for recognizing the important role played by faith-based institutions in national development. He thanked the Council for the honor and reaffirmed Jamia Mosque’s commitment to continue promoting unity, education, and community welfare.
The recognition comes at a time when Jamia Mosque Nairobi is marking 100 years of its establishment, a century characterized by spiritual guidance, education, social support, and national contribution.
This honor places Abdulbary Hamid among the distinguished Kenyans celebrated for their outstanding service to humanity, further cementing Jamia Mosque’s place as a leading institution in philanthropy and community empowerment.
During the national celebrations held on October 20 in Kitui County, a total of 184 individuals from various sectors were recognized for their efforts in Kenya’s struggle for independence and post-independence development.
Honouring the country’s heroes is part of the mandate of the National Heroes Council, which is responsible for identifying, selecting, and recognizing individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the nation.
The National Heroes Council is a State Corporation established by the Kenya Heroes Act No 5 of 2014 in accordance with the State Corporation Act (CAP. 446), Ministry of Gender, Culture, the Arts and Heritage in the State Department for Culture, the Arts and Heritage.
