Murang’a County has been ranked as the best-performing county in Kenya, according to the latest report by the research firm Infotrak. The survey, which assessed the performance of all 47 counties, evaluated key devolved functions including service delivery, infrastructure development, and public satisfaction.
Governor Irungu Kang’ata of Murang’a emerged as the best-performing governor with a 68% approval rating. Murang’a County was also ranked the top county with an overall performance score of 52%, slightly ahead of Homa Bay, which secured the second position with 51%.
Other high-performing counties included Trans Nzoia and Kirinyaga, both tying at third place with 48%. The fifth position was jointly held by Kisii, Nyeri, and Kisumu, each scoring 47% Counties ranked in the eighth position for outstanding performance included Uasin Gishu (46%), Elgeyo Marakwet (46%), Makueni, Bungoma, Kiambu, and Lamu.On a national scale, the survey results have sparked discussions on governance efficiency and public satisfaction. Counties ranked lower are now under pressure to implement better policies and improve service delivery.
The survey, conducted between October to December 2024, sampled 36,200 Kenyans across all counties.
The Infotrak rankings provide valuable insight into the progress of devolution and county leadership in Kenya. As counties continue to compete for excellence, improved governance and accountability remain crucial for sustainable development and public satisfaction
