Muslims across the country have been called upon not to give up on Gaza but to continue standing in solidarity with the Palestinian people during these trying times.
Speaking during a live broadcast of the Real Talk show on Horizon TV, Fatma Saman an educationist and Woman rights campaigner said Kenyans have a strong voice and can play a significant role in raising awareness about the injustices being faced by their brothers and sisters in Gaza.
"Everything happening in Gaza is everyone’s business," she said. "We all have a responsibility to speak out and ensure that the atrocities committed by Israel against the people of Gaza come to an end."
Her remarks come amid growing international concern over the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Fatma Saman called on especially the Muslims not to give up on Gaza, but to continue supporting Palestinians during what she described as a time of immense suffering and injustice.
“Muslims in Kenya must remain steadfast and not abandon the people of Gaza during these trying times,” she said. “We have a strong voice, and we must use it to raise awareness about the injustices and suffering our brothers and sisters in Gaza are going through.”
Saman stressed that the situation in Gaza is not just a Palestinian issue but a global humanitarian concern.
According to the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) on Thursday, around 90% of Gaza’s 2.4 million population has been forcibly displaced by Israel’s ongoing war on the enclave.
Palestinian marked the 77th anniversary of their expulsion from their towns in historical Palestine after the founding of Israel on Thursday.
“In 1948, more than 700,000 Palestinians were displaced from their towns and villages. These events are known as the Nakba,” UNRWA said in a statement.
“77 years later, Palestinians continue to be forcibly displaced.”
The refugee agency said that the Israeli war has forced 90% of the population to flee their homes.
Since October 2023, the Israeli army has pursued brutal attacks on the Gaza Strip, killing more than 53,000 Palestinians so far, most of them women and children.
Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
