The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has released a shortlist of 34 candidates for the position of Resident Kadhi following a competitive recruitment process.

According to a statement issued by the Commission, the five available posts had attracted a total of 261 applicants from across the country, reflecting a strong interest in serving within the Kadhi Courts under the Judiciary of Kenya.

The shortlisted candidates will now proceed to the next phase of the selection process, which includes interviews and suitability assessments aimed at identifying qualified individuals to serve as Kadhis in different stations across the country.

“Following the review of applications, the JSC shortlisted 34 candidates. Dates for the selection interviews will be communicated to the candidates,” JSC stated.

Resident Kadhis play a crucial role in the administration of justice among Muslims in Kenya, handling matters relating to personal status, marriage, divorce, and inheritance in accordance with Islamic law.

This recruitment exercise is part of JSC’s ongoing efforts to strengthen access to justice and enhance the efficiency of the Kadhi Courts, which are a vital component of Kenya’s judicial system.

Kadhis’ Courts are established under Article 170 of the Constitution. Their jurisdiction is limited to the determination of questions of Muslim Law relating to personal status, marriage, divorce or inheritance in proceedings in which all the parties profess the Muslim Religion and submit to the jurisdiction of the Kadhis’ courts.
